The Practice Acquisition Playbook

For the past three years, I’ve had the pleasure of developing and teaching the business of dentistry curriculum at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry for the first, second, third and fourth year DDS students. I am proud of what we have built for the dentists of tomorrow that shows students the concrete aspects of how to go from seeing one patient a day to working for a living. Our program teaches tomorrow’s dentists how revenue is ethically generated in dentistry and how this translates to their income as associates and future practice owners. The business of dentistry finally has a seat at the table in the dental school curriculum at the University of Toronto.

As a company, we support buyers in their acquisition. We see what most first time buyers know and what most don’t when they embark on buying. In an effort to not only improve the success of a new grad’s career but also to empower existing dentists in their ability to show up as the most qualified buyer in the LOI pile, we’ve created The Practice Acquisition Playbook.

This 53 page document takes the dentist through the qualitative and quantitative aspects of acquisition.

Beginning with the questions that need to be asked before you get an appraisal in hand, to a customizable affordability calculator, the tools to critically appraise an appraisal, to recalculating normalized cash flow statements that align with YOU and YOUR SKILLS, and not the generic ones in the valuation. The Playbook includes templates and frameworks to create your own customized projections, a template to guide you through LOI writing, an on-site due diligence process, and transition guide in preparation of closing.

If you’re seriously in the market to buy your first practice, this resource will up your game. It also serves as your business plan for your lender and your three year post-acquisition roadmap to track your success.
